Bullies: A Very Valuable Lesson!

Judy Guion published a post on her blog, “Greatest Generation” Life Lessons, that really struck a chord with me. The bullying that goes on today has reached epic proportions. In fact, today we have a new special breed of bullies! We have adults, people who are supposedly intelligent and rational, people who are supposedly journalists, bullying high school students because the students were wearing MAGA hats.

Such action by bullies is not politics as usual!

Remember the pink vagina hats? Some may have joked about them a bit. However, I do not remember conservative journalists or conservative leaders treating protesters wearing pink vagina hats in the same horrible manner.

Furthermore, I remember no comparable news coverage of things such as death threats, offers for sexual favors for anyone who punched one of those high school kids in the face, wishes for a school shooting at Covington High School, or statements that all these kids should be locked in the school while it is burned to the ground. The list goes on and on. Believe me! With the media these days, if there were similar statements from conservatives – we would have definitely heard about them.

Social Media has created a “safe place” for bullies!

Do you people even hear yourselves! This is not the America I know. These are either the rantings of spoiled rotten little children or truly evil people. You choose! Bullying is wrong in any way, shape or form … and for me, you do not get a pass just because you are a member of the press, a Hollywood elitist club, or a member of the “Democrat resistance”.

In my 35 + years of studying and teaching martial arts, I have learned a thing or two and one is that there is only one effective way to deal with a bully. And, it’s not appeasement. In fact, appeasement only makes things worse for the one being bullied while at the same time, reinforcing the bully’s behavior.

These bullies need to be stopped. It is time for real Americans to stand up and say, “No more.” I am glad to see the Attorney General of Kentucky investigating and pursuing legal action against some of these media and cyber bullies. In addition, I hope Covington High School sues the hell out of anyone involved.

It is high time Americans start to “resist” the idiots in this Democrat resistance! This is just another form of terrorism! I do know not all Democrats are involved or support this kind of behavior. You need to speak up to! This needs to stop on both sides.

Anyway, check out the great story by Judy Guion’s grandfather and his bully problem from the 1890s.

A BLOODY NOSE AND A BLACK EYE

by Judy Guion

If this is to be a truthful account of my boyhood, I now come to an incident of which I am heartily ashamed.  It happened early in my grammar school days.  I was rather a reserved quiet type who did not enter readily into the rougher sports and for that reason was not generally popular.  There was an aggressive, rather bullying type of youngster, taller and heavier than I, who evidently took a dislike to me and made things rather rough.

On another note:

Check out my high-adrenaline military action thriller, Serpents Underfoot.

Patience: A Lesson Learned From Self-Publishing

Do you have the patience to self-publish?

Self-publishing is a great opportunity for anyone who wishes to become a published author to get their work into the hands of readers. But, understand! Just because you publish a book does not mean it will fly off the shelf at Amazon.com! Self-publishing is not easy. It takes a great deal of work to do it right. Looking back, I made a great many mistakes publishing my first book. Many of them could probably have been avoided with a bit more patience, but hey … as long as you learn from your mistakes and do not keep repeating them, things can only get better.

This is the first in a series of blog posts in which I will share the lessons I learned from self-publishing my first novel. These lessons-learned will certainly be applied in publishing my sequel. If you find anything in this series of posts helpful to you, then I will be happy. And, if you do … I would love to hear from you.

patience
It is also about patience

Have the Patience to do it right!

Not only did I rush to finish my book, Serpents Underfoot, itself, but I had no platform in place to successfully market it. While Amazon does help authors promote books, your book won’t fly off the charts on its own. Their algorithm does not pick up your book until a certain level of sales is reached.  Having the patience to take the time to have a marketing platform and plan in place before publishing your book will be a big help in reaching that level.

This does not mean I am not having success. My book is selling and has gotten some really great reviews along with a couple of not-so-good reviews. But hey, not everyone will like your work! That is life.

However, there is nothing wrong with learning from the mistakes of others if you can.  Here is a list of things you might want to consider PRIOR to releasing your book:

  1. An author’s website.
  2. Author promotion and help sites such as BookBub, AuthorsDB, Author Connections, Alliance of Independent Authors, Authors Marketing Club, etc.
  3. Building a customer list.
  4. An email service such as Mail Chimp and a newsletter.
  5. Social network marketing such as a Facebook Author’s Page, Instagram, Pinterest or Twitter, and how too best utilize them.
  6. Advance Release Copies for reviews.
  7. Have a long term plan and stick to it.

Success will not just fall into your lap.  These things take time and patience to understand, set up, put in place, and achieve results. There is no “one magic bullet!”  Success is built around a lot of small steps and there is so much to learn. As you can probably see, it will take a good deal of work.  Having some patience will be a real asset.

Bad Ass Burger at Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar

 Definitely One Bad Ass Burger

bad ass burgerImagine if you will, a massive 10 oz. Angus Beef beef patty cooked to order with American cheese, and buttermilk batter-dipped deep-fried bacon. Then add horseradish mayo, lettuce, tomato, and a pickle. Now that’s a bad ass burger! You don’t even need the fries … but they are excellent as well!  Wash this all down with a draft Red Oak Bavarian Amber Lager and you really can’t get much better than this. It is not a lunch (or supper) for the meek at heart. The number of calories in this burger is a bit scary, but then it’s not something you’d want to eat everyday anyway. You could fast the day before. Then go on a cleansing diet the day after. I am all for eating healthy and many bloggers blog on that very subject. But, hey … a good burger once in awhile can’t hurt!

I first discovered Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar here in Cary, North Carolina in a magazine I was reading while getting the oil changed in my Nissan Xterra. The article covered the Top 25 Burgers in the United States and there, coming in at #14 was the Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar in Cary. Right then and there, I knew I would have to check it out. I am certainly a big burger fanatic. My favorite burger has always been the “Big Nasty” at the Stock and Barrel in Knoxville, Tennessee.  I am not sure I could choose, between the two, which is better.

Another favorite of mine at Bad Daddy’s is the Pastrami Reuben Burger, but that is definitely a story for another time because it is also an amazing burger. Especially if you are a fan of Reubens!.

Speaking of Bad Ass!

You should check out my novel, Serpents Underfoot, available on Amazon.com for $3.99 (Kindle version). It is also available in hardcover and paperback.  It is a bad ass, action-packed story of good versus evil with plenty of heroes and villains, political intrigue, romance, and American pride. And, when you do read it, please take time to leave a review. I am truly interested in your thoughts. They will help me make the sequel even better!

Russia Hacks the Oscars

oscars-awards-nominations-2017

Breaking News! It’s official! Russia hacked the Oscars! Putin switched the envelopes for the best picture award. There were loud cries of moral indignation and righteous outrage from the left-wing Hollywood Elites. Many tears of grief were shed resulting in elaborate Oscar gowns, some valued at many thousands of dollars, being totally ruined … stained with tears and running mascara!

An unnamed highly-placed source within the Oscar organization stated that spontaneous protests are currently being organized and will commence just as soon as they can get funding from George Soros and the signs they ordered back from the printers. #NOTOURLALALAND.

Hillary Clinton, just back from her latest staged “accidental” meet up with a loyal young female supporter in the woods, was quoted as stating she was ” 100% behind the downtrodden, disenfranchised and forgotten Hollywood Elites and would certainly be there for them in 2020!”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, upon hearing the news of this catastrophic occurrence, quickly went on the record, stating that, “This is simply additional evidence that President Trump should be impeached.  It should be illegal to traumatize the loyal supporters of so many undocumented illegal immigrants that cross our borders illegally! It is un-American and contrary to our unique American heritage,  After all, we are a nation of laws!”

President Trump, reacted to the news early this morning by tweeting, @POTUS Freaking Awesome!  The mainstream media outlets were outraged, then they were even more outraged, and finally, they were even more outraged! (Did I mention the mainstream media was outraged?)

The one bright shining light in this disastrous tragedy … Warren Beatty handled it calmly and brilliantly by doing exactly what actors do best. He read what was printed on the card even though it was dead wrong!

But Hillary and Chuck Refuse to be Upstaged by this Russia Hacking News

Hillary Clinton, just back from her latest staged “accidental” meet up with a loyal young female supporter in the woods, was quoted as stating she was ” 100% behind the downtrodden, disenfranchised and forgotten Hollywood Elites and would certainly be there for them and her Russian friends in 2020!”

The Problem with Ron Paul’s Thinking.

Despite his popularity with many college students and some short-sighted libertarian thinkers, Ron Paul would not have been a good choice for president. I say this in spite of the fact that I agree with his stance on several important issues. In fact, there are several areas in which his voting record is great as far as I am concerned! He has never voted to raise taxes, he has never voted to restrict firearms, and he has never voted for a pay raise for congressmen. He also does not participate in “government junkets,” he returns a portion of his office budget to the treasury every year, and he refuse to participate in the obscenely lucrative congressional pension plan. I can respect those things about him since I tend to have some “libertarian” leanings myself. However, his downfall is his apparent inability to see beyond his own point of view.

Say, for instance, you’re a dedicated conservative working in some fairly liberal environment, like a college or university campus. I’m am sure you will be very familiar with the odd, confused, or even hostile, looks you receive from coworkers who have had every contrary political view point to theirs (if, indeed, they have even heard one) filtered by their like-minded peers. They exist in a safe self-validating bubble consisting of agreeing viewpoints. There will be no room for, or tolerance of, your point of view. No room for compromise…

Being able to see the “big picture” is generally considered a desirable trait, but it can sometimes interfere with being able to recognize the truth. Communism is probably the best example of this phenomenon. Communist leaders can take any fact or event, put their Marxist colored glasses on, and proceed to screw things up. That is one of the reasons the Soviet Union failed. They simply couldn’t grow food or produce quality products because their farming and production methods had to be based on Communist philosophy, which by its very nature inspires no one to standout or excel in their assigned area of responsibility.

I do think, however, that he is an idealist in the worst sense of the word. Ron Paul replies to every question like a robot programmed with a series of patented libertarian answers. He doesn’t seem to let his life’s experiences and the realities of the world in which we live, cause him to think, and therefore help him to shape thoughtful reasonable answers. He lets his philosophy shape his reality.

Life isn’t as simple as many people want to think it is. In choosing a new president, we all, no matter where on the political spectrum we fall, certainly would want somebody with a central guiding philosophy. However, we cannot afford to have somebody in office that is so rigid in his philosophy that intelligent compromise and realistic policy making become impossible. Ron Paul simply does not seem to have the common sense to understand the world we live in.

Do you need some examples?

How about the recent GOP Spanish-language debate held in Coral Gables, FL. Ron Paul, finding himself in the heart of Cuban-American country where Fidel Castro is still hated and ostracized, was loudly booed when he called out for improved relations with Castro’s Cuba. If Castro isn’t such a “bad fellow” and Cuba is such a wonderful place, why are all these Cubans here and why do they hate Castro so? I understand that if you are one of Hollywood’s darlings and a feather-brained secular-progressive liberal like Harry Belafonte, Robert Redford, Jack Nicholson, Oliver Stone, Matt Dillon, or Chevy Chase; Castro will roll out the Red Carpet and make you feel very, very welcome. But … what about the thousands of tortured Cubans in his prisons? I think there is something very sick about the compulsion of such stars to pander to tyrants … so long as those tyrants are “progressive” and anti-American.

There is also the fact that during an extremely difficult period when we as a nation are at war with a terrorist community bent on destroying us, when increasing border security is a major concern for many Americans, and when most sensible candidates are discussing the need for some kind of tamper-proof guest worker identification card as a means to help control the borders; Ron Paul’s only answer is an automatic claim that such action can only lead to a national identification card for all Americans, which he absolutely opposes. I simply do not see how one action automatically leads to the other; especially in the light of the outrage over New York’s Governor Spitzer’s plan for issuing drivers licenses to illegal immigrants.

Another fact Ron Paul, and we as Americans, must understand and come to grips with, is that isolationism has never worked. The world is getting way too small for that kind of mentality to be safe. Ron Paul’s comments in the first GOP debate that things that happen in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, or Iraq are those countries problems, and should not concern us, belies a very scary lack of the understanding that we do, in fact, live in a world of mutually inter-dependent economies, and that, simply put, nuclear missiles launched by Iran at Israel will certainly have a direct effect on us.

Lastly, I have a very hard time viewing Ron Paul as the Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces. After all, this is the same Ron Paul that, during the first GOP debate, basically apologized to al Qaeda for our having forced those poor misunderstood terrorists to come over and blow up the twin World Trade Center towers, killing thousands of Americans … and many people from other countries as well including Australia, Bermuda, Great Britain, Canada, China, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Germany, Israel, Japan, and Mexico. Is Ron Paul an American apologist? Is he a western apologist? Or does he not understand that some radical Islamic fundamentalists simply hate us and want to kill us because we are not also radical Islamic fundamentalists? Whichever the case maybe, a candidate with that line of reasoning simply cannot be put in charge of the security of our nation and certainly cannot become the Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces.
